Korg MS-20 mini and Arturia Beatstep Pro
In one of my other articles, I talked about how CV can be in 1V/O (1 Volt per Octave) and Hz/V (Hertz per Volt). Korg MS-20 mini (and most of the older Korg hardware with CV uses Hz/V and S-Trig. You can read this guide in Google Drive by Arturia, or you can read the steps below on how to use the Beatstep Pro to sequencer the Korg-MS20.
Prerequisites: Install MIDI Control Center, and test to make sure that the computer detects the Beatstep Pro in the software.
- Make sure that the Beatstep Pro is connected to your computer via USB, and launch MIDI Control Center
- In the MIDI Control Center, go to the CV/Gate Mode section, and look at the Seq1 or Seq2 section of Pitch and Gate (select the Sequence lane you want to sequence the Korg MS-20)
- From here, assuming you chose Seq1, under Seq1 Pitch, click on the down triangle, and select Hz/Volt (instead of V/Oct)
- Go to the Seq1 Gate, click on the down triangle, and select S-trig (instead of V-trig)
- Connect Sequencer 1 Pitch out of the Beatstep Pro into VCO 1+2 CV IN on the MS-20 with a patch cable
- Connect Sequencer 1 Gate out of the Beatstep Pro into TRIG IN on the MS-20 with a patch cable
Enjoy, and keep making music!
