Korg MS-20 mini and Arturia Beatstep Pro

In one of my other articles, I talked about how CV can be in 1V/O (1 Volt per Octave) and Hz/V (Hertz per Volt).  Korg MS-20 mini (and most of the older Korg hardware with CV uses Hz/V and S-Trig.  You can read this guide in Google Drive by Arturia, or you can read the steps below on how to use the Beatstep Pro to sequencer the Korg-MS20.

Prerequisites:  Install MIDI Control Center, and test to make sure that the computer detects the Beatstep Pro in the software.

  1.  Make sure that the Beatstep Pro is connected to your computer via USB, and launch MIDI Control Center
  2. In the MIDI Control Center, go to the CV/Gate Mode section, and look at the Seq1 or Seq2 section of Pitch and Gate (select the Sequence lane you want to sequence the Korg MS-20)
  3. From here, assuming you chose Seq1, under Seq1 Pitch, click on the down triangle, and select Hz/Volt (instead of V/Oct)
  4. Go to the Seq1 Gate, click on the down triangle, and select S-trig (instead of V-trig)
  5. Connect Sequencer 1 Pitch out of the Beatstep Pro into VCO 1+2 CV IN on the MS-20 with a patch cable
  6. Connect Sequencer 1 Gate out of the Beatstep Pro into TRIG IN on the MS-20 with a patch cable

Enjoy, and keep making music!
